Best Times To Shop

Lowe's usually has great sales with every holiday. Memorial Day, Father's Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas are the times for the best sales. In addition to in-store deals on Black Friday, Lowe's also participates in online sales on Cyber Monday. Additionally, there are some great sales after Christmas and at the end of each season. If you are willing to buy seasonal items such as holiday trees or grills a year in advance, the end-of-season sales can save you up to 75 percent off original prices.

Free Shipping Policy

If an item is marked with the parcel icon, it is eligible for Lowe's free shipping policy. This policy states that qualifying orders over $49 are shipped free to your door. Oversized items that require freight shipping do not qualify. However, you can order any item from Lowes.com and have it shipped to a store near you for free, and you simply go pick up the item. Although this requires more work, you have an opportunity to receive a free $20 gift card if you have to wait more than 20 minutes for help at the service department.

Return Policy

Lowe's has a generous return policy that allows you to bring any purchased item back within 90 days. The store will fix broken items or replace them. If you are unsatisfied with the quality or performance of the item, the store will refund your money. While a receipt is helpful, the store can track it down if you present the credit card number used to purchase the item or the bank info used to write a check. A valid photo ID and phone number may be required for returns.

Lowe's Credit Card

If you have decent credit, you may be approved for a Lowe's credit card. When you make purchases at Lowe's, you can choose between a cash-back benefit based on a fraction of the purchase total or special financing with no interest. There are minimum purchase requirements to qualify for this benefit. For larger purchases, you can also qualify for a lower APR and up to 84 smaller fixed payments toward the purchase. This is especially beneficial for new construction and major remodeling projects.

You can also save more money by finding online coupons and promo codes. When you are ready to make your purchase, enter the code number in the promo box in the checkout cart. If it does not work, try another code. Be sure to enter letters in the correct case. Always check back here for coupons and new shopping tips for Lowe's and other major online retailers.

Lowe's History

The history of this chain started in 1946 with a small hardware store in North Carolina. It was owned by H. Carl Buchan, and he owned part of another hardware store at the time. His vision was to create a chain of stores specializing in home improvement. At the time of its inception, Lowe's was a typical small-town hardware store featuring everything from horse collars to washing tubs. Buchan also bought out his brother-in-law's share in anticipation of the building boom following World War II. He focused on rare building supplies, hardware and appliances at that time.

Buchan did not work with wholesalers but sought out manufacturers instead. This helped his company establish its well-known reputation for low prices, which is still a major attraction to buyers today. As the sales and demands grew, more Lowe's stores opened in neighboring towns in North Carolina. The store spread throughout the state and expanded even more after officially becoming public in 1961. Lowe's hit a sales record of over $1 billion in 1982. The company soon started marketing to DIY enthusiasts. It is one of the top 10 largest retailers in the United States and ranks in the top 20 largest retailers in the world today.
